Interiors Awards 2010: Hotel Winner

It’s always a challenge to rebrand a property, especially one like the Hyatt West Hollywood that’s rich in its history and rock-n-roll lore. But this Sunset Strip property—which originated as the Gene Autry Hotel in 1963 and gained notoriety as Continental Hyatt House, or Riot House, when frequented in the ’70s by rock legends Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones—was reopened in January 2009 as an Andaz Hotel, a new brand of Hyatt, after a top-to-bottom redesign by Janson Goldstein. SHLEMMER+ALGAZE+ASSOCIATES (SAA) COMMITTED TO BUILDING A STRONGER COMMUNITY THROUGH VARIOUS EFFORTS

CULVER CITY, CALIF. (February 26, 2010) Shlemmer+Algaze+Associates (SAA)

CULVER CITY, CALIF. (February 26, 2010) Shlemmer+Algaze+Associates (SAA), with design professionals in three Southern California offices, is committed to building a stronger community by identifying needs and encouraging staff to get involved with philanthropic efforts. Throughout 2009, SAA and its employees generously contributed talent, time, and resources to non-profit organizations such as Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, America Recycles, Orangewood Children’s Foundation, Boys & Girls Club, and Soles 4 Souls.

Some examples of the diverse needs met through the generosity of SAA employees in 2009 include:

• The five-member SAA volunteer team worked diligently constructing scaffolding surrounding the perimeter of 10 future homes at a Habitat for Humanity site in Lynwood, CA. Their hard work provided builders direct access to the rooftops.

• Participating in the 5 and 10 k run in Irvine, CA was especially gratifying for the team of 42 SAA runners. The SAA team simultaneously set and achieved personal goals while bringing awareness and raising over $750 for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation.

• SAA staff visited with and brought holiday cheer to many deserving, disadvantaged children at the WE CARE event held in December 2009 at Costa Mesa Boys & Girls Club. Crafts, gifts and a visit from Santa made this event truly special.

“We believe that giving back to the community not only helps those charities we serve, but it enhances our lives and our work,” commented Rick Shlemmer, Principal, SAA.

SAA has offices in Los Angeles, Newport Beach and Pasadena.
